Press release
THE COAPE ASSOCIATION OF PET BEHAVIOURISTS AND TRAINERS IS LAUNCHED WITH A FANFARE CAMPAIGN AGAINST CRUELTY IN DOG TRAINING AND BEHAVIOUR THERAPY!
Over 1000 dog owners, trainers, behaviourists, vets and nurses from all over the world have already rushed to sign the petition to date and CAPBT and COAPE have now been joined by the APDT (UK) as a Participating Organisation!
Chairperson, Kirsty Peake DipCAPBT MPSA, is delighted to announce the launch of the new independent COAPE Association of Pet Behaviourists and Trainers on October 10th 2009. Already over 300 strong, and thus the largest representative body of qualified companion animal behaviourists in the UK, CAPBT members are available for the assessment and treatment of pet behaviour problems on referral from veterinary practices. Most members also offer socialisation and training for puppies and adult dogs.
All CAPBT members have graduated with the renowned, specifically dedicated Advanced Diploma in Companion Animal Behaviour and Training run by COAPE (see www.coape.org for further details). All CAPBT members carry full insurance and adhere to a strict Code of Practice that guarantees pet owners of the highest modern standards of effective and ethical treatment in all cases. To locate your nearest CAPBT practice/training class, and for full details about this progressive new organisation, please go to www.capbt.org
To herald the launch of the CAPBT, the association is running a campaign against the use of bullying dog training, outdated behaviour therapy, coercive whispering techniques and inhumane equipment which can all cause untold physical and psychological damage to dogs. There are still huge numbers of ‘stamp and jerk’ dog trainers and whisperers at large who haven’t chosen to move on into the humane, modern age of dog training. The CAPBT is urging all dog and puppy owners, and every breeder, veterinary practice, pet store, kennels, welfare and rescue centre … in fact anyone involved with dogs to:
ASK WHY? of those trainers who still want to be cruel to dogs by training with punishment, correcting jerks and coercion when kind training methods are so much better, and are so very widely known and applied all over the world these days?
ASK WHY? of those ‘behaviourists’ who persist in deploying those long out-of-date ‘dominance reduction’ and one-size-fits-all ‘nothing in life is free’ programmes. Why are they telling owners to punish dogs psychologically by ignoring them, and risking the precious bond they have together?
CAPBT urges all owners to ‘SAY NO!’ to all of them and their long outdated, inhumane and discredited techniques.
CAPBT Chairperson, Kirsty Peake says ‘For help with dog training and behaviour therapy, please contact a CABPT member who will work with you and your dog using only modern, positive, effective and kind rewarding techniques. Every CAPBT member is a specifically qualified, modern insured professional. Love your dog! Train him kindly and he’ll love you in return!’
